Description

The sixth and final print in our quirky 'Corner Mary' collection invites you into a serene corner of Antwerp, showcasing the unique fusion of art, faith, and nature so characteristic of this city. This print features an ornate statue of Madonna and Child, radiant under the watchful wings of a dove emanating golden rays of divine light. These figures stand ensconced within a beautifully carved wooden balcony enclosure, painted in delicate shades of pale blue and grey.

The duo, rendered in immaculate detail, are underlined by cherubs and intricately fashioned curved forms, encapsulating the ornate craftsmanship of these public art installations. The distinct viewpoint of this print was chosen to highlight not only the statue itself, but the dynamic interplay between the statue and the enveloping ivy. The climbing foliage, a symbol of nature's insistent vitality, weaves an enchanting tapestry over the mediaeval brick building, creating an interesting visual contrast.

In the foreground, an old metal and glass street lamp, with elaborate and organic ironwork, stands guard, its details serving as a fascinating counterpoint to the serene figures above. The soft, overcast light brings out the pale blues of the statue, the warm orange hues of the bricks, and the vibrant greens of the ivy. It casts a gentle, tranquil mood over the scene, enriching the colours and deepening the textures of this intriguing tableau.

This print, either on its own or as part of the full 'Corner Mary' collection, provides an iconic and vibrant window into Antwerp's street scenes. Collecting the full set presents an opportunity to curate a fascinating feature for your walls, a testament to the unique intersection of faith, art, and nature in this vibrant Belgian city.
